#Jaybird x3 which is right and left portable
While the higher-end Jaybird Freedom range has made this dock double as a portable charging pack, the X3’s is just another piece of paraphernalia that you’ll either want to leave at home, or risk losing.īoth this and the intermittent drop-outs are going to affect each user in different ways - some may not mind having a single charging dock left at home, and others may not ever experience the audio cutting out (we found the problem lessened when in enclosed spaces or in larger crowds). Unfortunately the smaller profile means that the X3s now charge with a proprietary charging dock - although the tiny dock still uses micro-USB. Their compact size, wireless nature, and awesome sound definitely bely their price. The sweat- and dust-proof design is essential if you want to work out to some tunes, and a load off the mind of the everyday listener caught in a drizzle.

Most of the X3’s design changes over the X2s are for the better - a smaller profile allows them to fit under helmets and hats, an upgrade to Bluetooth 4.1 provides longer battery-life (8 hours) and the ability to pair two devices, and support for the aforementioned MySound app makes for incredibly malleable sound.įeatures of the X2 that have remained are, for the most part, the ones that tick the biggest boxes. These profiles save to your headphones rather than to the playback device, meaning you can set it once and then use it across any of your other devices without needing to re-tune.

The stock audio profile is relatively treble-skewed, but thanks to the free Jaybird MySound app (available on iOS and Android), you can use a five-band EQ to fine-tune the acoustics or switch between a variety of presets and user-created profiles. I've been getting more like three hours per charge, which means you better run a damn fast marathon or risk getting to mile 21 and meeting only silence. The MySound app is incredibly useful for personalising your sound.

Jaybird advertises four hours of battery life, plus another two charges from the case. That's fine, except the flimsy case keeps opening in my bag and stealing audio away from whatever I'm actually trying to listen with. The Run buds turn on as soon as you open the charging case, and immediately try to connect.

And if you store your phone in your back-left pocket, forget it. Even if I'm sitting at my desk, not doing anything, every few minutes the left bud will start to flicker in and out. But they don't use near-rock-solid Near-Field Magnetic Induction, just regular Bluetooth, and I've had a lot of trouble keeping the two connected and in sync. The right bud connects to your phone, and the left bud connects to the right. When you first pair the headset, you'll hear "Go to Bluetooth settings and select Jaybird Run" every two seconds until you pair the buds or go loony trying. Everything about the buds' connection to your phone and each other feels wonky.
